Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer and the first European to reach India by sea. (This was before sat nav. So, pretty good going.)

At the time, it was all about spices. And his efforts certainly boosted the national economy.

Then again, they already had tawny port. And cork.

Which makes you think. Sometimes it’s hard to see the riches that are right under your nose. (This is a lesson we can all learn.) Though, in a nation of seafarers – in the years before football, acting and modelling – it’s easy to see how this would happen.

So, this is a gift for the people who see what is there to be appreciated now. But also the horizons waiting to be conquered.
